Missouri farmers have been eager to work with government and non-governmental partners to ensure watershed improvement efforts in the Meramec Basin. A six member landowner committee has been empowered to govern and guide restoration efforts in these watersheds. This venture for improving natural resources of the basin was initially begun in 2001 with a business model approach of clean water and reduced erosion for streams and lower fertilizer costs, higher forage utilization and improved cattle health for farmers. A project manager for this priority area coordinates with farmers and contractors to install approved best management practices.
