Successful implementation of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan will require great coordination and collaboration between all partners and stakeholders. The National Science and Data Team is developing a data system that will facilitate the data management and data exchange that supports the implementation of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan. Initially the Web-accessible map-based viewer will deliver data attributed to the national framework contributing to the first assessment of the Nation’s fish habitat. A second Web release will disseminate the results from the analyses which will be delivered in the 2010 report of the status of fish habitats in the United States. When fully developed, the National Fish Habitat Action Plan data system is planned to include the priority rankings from the assessment, a conservation projects database, a mechanism for facilitating the data exchange between the partners, as well as other layers of publicly available data to aid Fish Habitat Partnerships in prioritizing watersheds for conservation efforts. The longer term goal is to achieve a full decision support interface provided to the public that will dynamically incorporate new data and generate an effectiveness score of project or conservation activity implementation.
