This symposium will bring together researchers offering a broad spectrum of viewpoints, including industry, academia and state and federal regulatory agency perspectives. This gathering of professionals is timely as several mining related issues have recently been raised before the water quality section and the AFS board. Additionally, as mining and natural resource extraction activities expand, the need for economically and environmentally sustainable solutions supported by regulatory actions based on the best available science becomes more urgent.
