The Kittitas Conservation Trust is helping to reverse the trend of declining fish and wildlife habitat in Kittitas County, WA by removing an old irrigation dam on Manastash Creek that is a barrier to migrating fish, and by reconstructing the channel to provide for stable conditions and riparian vegetation establishment. On the Cle Elum River two large engineered log jams were constructed to direct perennial flows into a relic side channel. These ARRA funded projects in the Yakima River watershed are contributing to the recovery of trust resources and build upon a non-regulatory, voluntary, citizen and community based stewardship effort for fish and wildlife conservation in the County.
