Brook trout is a targeted fishery in the Adirondacks of New York and the Green Mountains of Vermont. The areas cold water, high gradient streams, provide habitat that promotes healthy self-sustaining populations. However, like many trout streams, they have been segmented by multiple road crossings. This project, funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, replace four structures and retrofit five others to reconnect miles of pristine brook trout habitat. The projects within the Lake George watershed were directed by the New York Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District and in Great Brook, Plainfield, VT by the Friends of the Winooski River Association. This presentation provides an overview of the projects.
