Digital Deck: Tools for community fisheries accountability and sustainability

Project Statement:

Ecotrust is in the process of developing DigitalDeck, a technology platform for fishermen to collect and integrate electronic data which supports accountability to standards, collaborative research, spatial planning, monitoring activities, and product traceability.

Description of project

The goal of DigitalDeck is to support the collection, access, and synthesis of information to demonstrate and achieve the standards and metrics for community fisheries. This tool will make it easy and fast for fishermen to be accountable in their fisheries practice and compliant with fisheries requirements and standards and can be adapted to different scales and fisheries as needed. Providing fishermen with complete and real-time access to harvest information they collect will enable them to more effectively participate in the management of their fisheries and businesses.

This modern information platform responds to needs expressed by fishing communities and is being designed to serve the needs of the fishing community, foster and promote collaborative fishing efforts, better track and manage fisheries data, and empower fishermen to make better harvest decisions. The project will be considered successful based on contribution to the establishment of sustainable fisheries that support healthy ecosystems and vibrant local economies.
