Status of Zander in North Dakota.

European pikeperch or Zander (Sander lucioperca) were introduced into Spiritwood Lake, North Dakota, in 1989.  Prior to introduction, strong reservations were expressed over predation and competition with other species and potential hybridization with native walleye (S. vitreum) and sauger (S. canadense).  After nearly a quarter century, including possible escapement and range extension, we fail to recognize negative ecological consequences from this purposeful introduction.  Population density remains quite low thus the species persists in relative obscurity.  Recent genetics testing will be presented.
