Obstructions such as the Lincoln Street Dam in Wichita, KS affect fish movement and spawning of native fishes. This dam was recently replaced, with a new design including a fish passage structure – the first of its kind in Kansas.  Because fish passage in the United States has primarily targeted larger fish species in the past, little data exists to support the use of this structure by the targeted native Kansas species. Assessment of the fish community before and after the implementation of the fish passage will be a useful tool in evaluating the effectiveness of this structure in reducing the effect of dam obstructions for Kansas fishes.
