A Montana Fish Hatchery Spawns an Integrated Approach to Aquatic Education

Mark Maskill , DOI USFWS, Creston National Fish Hatchery, Kalispell, MT
Lacking outreach resources needed due to limited staff and funding, the Creston NFH had to explore innovative ways to increase community involvement and support. A new educational component seemed to be the answer. This program has not only increased the fishery program's relevance to the public but has become a model that has helped the facility gain national recognition. This presentation will highlight strategies and changes made at the hatchery, with help from community and conservation organizations, working together to increase outreach opportunities while maintaining the integrity of the hatchery and its primary role as a premiere cold water fish production facility.
