Modern communications technology can be an important tool for scientists. Social media tools provide powerful new avenues for professional networking, mentorship and collaboration, for getting constructive expert feedback on ongoing projects, and for staying up to date with new discoveries and techniques in your field. These tools are also widely used by journalists, conservation advocates, and policymakers, allowing social media savvy scientists to significantly amplify the impact of their research. This session will share case studies of the successful use of social media tools by marine scientists, along with strategies, tips and tricks for scientists hoping to get started or improve their skillset.
