Fishing is a great way for everyone to have fun outdoors, learn about conservation, and make happy memories together. Our Discover Nature — Fishing Program helps Missourians gain the skills and confidence to go fishing on their own.

The Discover Nature — Fishing Program targets youth and families and lessons are designed at the beginning/introductory level.  The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) employs Angler Education Assistants in each of our eight regions to work with regional staff to train MDC staff, volunteers, teachers, and youth group leaders on how to teach the Discover Nature—Fishing program to students, campers, families, and other audiences.

Through our network regional staff and trained volunteer fishing instructors, an organized and consistent angler education program is offered statewide by the way of a newly developed instructor’s guide and teaching materials.

The Discover Nature—Fishing program is being included in many Missouri schools as part of their regular teaching curriculum, and has recently been adopted by The Salvation Army as their national fishing program for youth.
