Notropis is an ecologically diverse genus in the family Cyprinidae. The genus is speciose with over 91 species. Currently, a phylogeny for the entire genus has not been completed. Therefore, I used data available on GenBank to perform the most complete phylogenetic analysis on Notropis. I accumulated 77 cytochrome b sequences (1140 bp, cytb) and 69 cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (654 bp, COI) sequences. I performed phylogenetic analyses using neighbor joining, maximum-likelihood, and Bayesian analyses. The cytb and COI gene trees showed different groupings for some of the species in the genus Notropis.  Many of the groupings however, aligned with many of the smaller published phylogenies of Notropis.
