Scott Florin , Washington State University, Pullman, WA

Bats are a common component of the riparian ecosystem and prey heavily on insects.  Following consumption of food bats will deposit guano.  We collected hair samples from bats collected while foraging over a streams.  Spawning salmon numbers in the study streams varied from relatively few to huge.  Hair is being analyzed to determine in marine derived nutrients can be identified in the hair and whether the levels in the hair are related to salmon spawner density in the stream where the samples were collected.
