127-11 Bridging the Chasm Between Land and Water Conservation

Mary Ann King , Trout Unlimited, Berkeley, CA
Despite the obvious connection between land and water within watersheds and ecosystems, conservation acquisitions targeted toward water and land have often been fragmented. This presentation will discuss two ways that Trout Unlimited is attempting to bridge the chasm between land and water conservation: (a) combining forces with the land conservation community at multiple scales to enhance habitat for coldwater fisheries, and (b) working to enhance streamflow by linking land and water management changes with instream flow protection in California.  The presentation will focus on evolving cooperative efforts with residential and agricultural landowners and provide case studies of various tools and types of infrastructure and water rights changes being employed to enhance streamflow and create incentives for conservation.
