Over the past several decades, catch-and-release has grown from a management option to a conservation ethic for many anglers, and for many fisheries.  Despite this popularity, there is still considerable a range of gaps in our understanding of catch-and-release angling practices, as well as a number of informative avenues for research that should be addressed in the future.  The current presentation will provide a historical perspective on catch-and-release practices across many fisheries, combined with an overview of the effectiveness of catch-and-release regulations at helping reach management goals and objectives.  Emerging issues in catch-and-release research will also be discussed, along with future challenges and goals to be considered when implementing future catch-and-release studies.
