The Pacific Northwest Salmon Habitat Project Database was created in 2004 after compiling data on restoration projects occurring in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana as part of a project to learn more about the types and locations of restoration actions. The full online database is intended to be used for the planning and placement of future restoration actions, as well as large scale analysis of past actions. It is available at (http://webapps.nwfsc.noaa.gov/pnshp).  In this case study, we focused on the Puget Sound Recovery Domain due to its growing urbanization and declining salmonid populations (Chinook ESA listing in 1999, Chum  in 1999) to demonstrate uses of consistently compiled, spatially explicit restoration data. We evaluated restoration projects, from the PNSHP database, in conjunction with other spatial characteristics: intrinsic potential, land use, and land coverage. Our ultimate goal is to determine if there is a link to where projects are being located, and is there a way that we can combine these data sources together to help the future placement of projects.
