Predictions of annual entrainment of resident salmonids at the Duncan Creek Diversion, California, USA, were made a priori based on a fish movement model developed from literature trout movement studies.   Trout in the stream were PIT tagged and entrainment was monitored.  The literuature based estimate of etrainment accurately matched the empirical observations.  The modeling approach provides a method of estimating entrainment in situations where a direct sampling entrainment study is not practical.
