126-28 Panel Discussion on Floodways and Fishways

Marcin Whitman , California Department of Fish and Game, Sacramento, CA
Immediately preceding this discusion several authors will present on various methods being used to add at least fish passage, and sometimes more continuity of channel processes, to highly modified floodway channels in urban areas. Due to urban buildout and need for hydraulic capacity, modification to restore function to such channels is often severly physically constrainted. However, in some cases, flood mangers are also realizing that fulfilling their fish passage obligations can also lead to lower maintenace cost and improved public recreaction in urban streams. All authors from the session will compare, constrast and answer questions in this discussion.
