The Quinault Indian Nation is leading efforts to restore salmon habitat in a 17 mile river segment of the Upper Quinault River. The restoration program is based upon extensive historical studies of the Quinault River and 30 years of scientific research concerning riverine and riparian processes of Olympic peninsula coastal river valleys.  The Salmon Habitat Restoration Plan ─ Upper Quinault River, by the Quinault Indian Nation, is a science-based approach to restoring the Upper Quinault riverine landscape in support of salmon population habitat. An overview will be presented of the approach used integrating historical analyses, process-based science, and restoration prescriptions, in selecting reach-scale projects as well as lessons learned from our initial on-the-ground pilot projects.
