The boating access component of the Sport Fish Restoration Program has served the needs of the recreational boating community well for the past 25 years.  But few programmatic assessments of this have been completed.  Accordingly, an assessment of the effectiveness of the boating access program was completed by the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council.  This Council is a federally chartered advisory committee established in 1993. The Council advises the Interior Department Secretary, through the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, on recreational fishing and boating issues. The Council’s assessment concluded that the program was operating effectively.  The Council made several recommendations to improve the program for the future.  The Council’s assessment and its recommendations will be discussed.
