T-12-6 Barracuda Biology in the Bahamas - Insights From Multidisciplinary Applications of Electronic Tags
Tuesday, August 21, 2012: 9:15 AM
Meeting Room 12 (RiverCentre)
Electronic tagging tools are often used in isolation rather than
considering them as a suite of technologies that can be used to
incrementally expand knowledge. Using great barracuda in the coastal waters
of The Bahamas as a case study we explore the spatial ecology of this beast
relative detailed behavioural information as well as data on the ciguatera
(biotoxin) burden of tagged fish. We suggest that the approaches used here
are particularly relevant to coastal communities around the globe where
there are growing challenges with biotoxins in captured fish and human
health.
