The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the report compiled after a ‘Social Media for Fisheries Communications’ Workshop sponsored by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and the Atlantic Coastal Cooperative Statistics Program (ACCSP) held in Arlington, VA on January 10-11, 2013. During the workshop particular emphasis was placed on the understanding the integration of social media tools in communication planning, including developing guidelines on best management practices and measures to track performance. This presentation will also explore how social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs, Mobile/Phone Apps, Live Streaming) can fit into an already existing communications plan, as well as how ACCSP is integrating it into a revised communications plan for 2013. Lastly, this report  surveys how various fisheries management agencies have identified target audiences, pros/cons, performance metrics, payout for specific social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogs, Mobile/Phone Apps, Live Streaming, etc.).
