Fisheries management in the 21rst century is challenging and complex.   Inspirational visions of the future of our fisheries are critical or fisheries management will be rife with conflict.  Visions must be simple, set a clear direction to the future, and include how scientists, managers and stakeholders will all work together to the future.  Actual life experiences will help to explain the importance of leading with vision and provide insight on what it takes to develop an effective vision for the future for our fisheries along with the type of vision likely to have no effect on the future.   Can you step outside the box of traditional fisheries science and enhance your own future and the future of our fisheries by developing the skills and building the tools to lead with vision?  If so we can help to point you in the right direction.  We believe a young professional with skills in leadership and strategic thinking, an understanding of human dimensions, and can lead with vision will be more desirable for hiring and advancement in the fisheries workforce of the future.
