The Role of Scientisits in Public Policy Development and Advocacy

Many scientists find themselves in a quandary when trying to evaluate and choose their particular role in natural resources decision-making.  In our view, this is an unnecessary source of concern because scientists always have multiple career choices.  This vignette will explore those choices, and discuss how policy-makers can best engage scientists  To assist in planning a career, we describe three options for scientists’ participation in natural resources decision-making. Individuals should decide which role best fits their personal style, priorities, and career goals. Each role is important and serves a valuable purpose within both the scientific and public policy arenas.
