As trenchless pipeline watercourse crossing technologies continue to develop, and become common practice for pipeline construction projects there are higher expectations for the maintenance of water quality and quantity and the restoration of watercourse bed and banks associated with conventional instream construction techniques. There are many factors to consider when planning and carrying out instream construction and in the subsequent restoration of a watercourse. Planning and design must take into account erosion and sediment control, fish passage and restoration of fish habitat among other aspects. This presentation is a review of instream pipeline watercourse crossing construction and restoration methods including results of past watercourse restoration projects in northern British Columbia.
