Ghost FISH of the Wimahl-the Primordial Salmon and Steelhead Runs of the Columbia River

David Saiget , BIOFISH Environmental Consultants & Aquatic Sciences, White Salmon, WA
The Columbia River of the Pacific Coast of North America once supported one of the largest fish runs in the world. In the last 200 years, the salmon and steelhead runs of this great river have been decimated by overfishing, hydroelectric dams, habitat destruction, and pollution. These relics of a past age cannot survive into the next unless the impacts of human activities are curbed. This short film shows salmon and steelhead as they return from the sea after a journey of many thousands of miles and many years. Filmed entirely underwater, the natural beauty and behavior of these fish, and a view of their world as seen from their perspective, are shown. Subtitled with no narration, the underwater images are combined with the music of Frank Sonsini and Jacco Willems.
