Replenishing a River: Stanislaus River Honolulu Bar Restoration
Replenishing a River: Stanislaus River Honolulu Bar Restoration
The Honolulu Bar Restoration Project was a floodplain restoration project designed to create vital habitat to improve spawning and rearing of Fall-run Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Trout on the Stanislaus River in California’s Central Valley. The video chronicles the transformation of a two-and-a half acre region of the river called Honolulu bar, and discusses Oakdale Irrigation District (OID)‘s commitment to stewardship and giving back to the Stanislaus River. The project was a collaboration between OID, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, CBEC, River Partners and FISHBIO. FISHBIO staff helped design and implement this project and also documented the progress of the restoration through video and photos captured by GoPros, Canon DSLRS and Canon G12 cameras. The resultant video provides a modern educational platform and highlights the importance and benefit of collaboration to benefit fisheries.
