Engaging in Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation Endeavors to Increase Participation in Fishing and Boating

The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation’s (RBFF) mission is to increase participation in recreational angling and boating and thereby increase public awareness and appreciation of the need to protect, conserve and restore this nation's aquatic natural resources. Our organization works to recruit, retain and reactivate anglers and boaters. We call it “R3” and we reach millions of people each year through our national Take Me Fishing™ and Vamos A Pescar™ marketing campaigns, our critical collaboration with state agencies, and partnerships with industry manufacturers and retailers. We’ve identified the barriers to fishing and boating participation, including changing demographics, and how to overcome them. Our presentation will cover the latest research on these topics and will highlight current RBFF programs such as lapsed angler and boat registration marketing programs, resources to help state agencies engage with consumers, and a project in partnership with the Aquatic Resources Education Association (AREA) to develop tools to evaluate, improve and develop effective angler R3 efforts. We will also highlight our future plans as we work together to increase fishing and boating participation, and sustain conservation support, throughout the U.S.
