The National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation has quantified the angling participation of various demographic groups, such as women, children, and racial groups, for 2001, 2006, and 2011. Participation rates of females and minorities have consistently been below the national averages for fishing activities.  This trend is becoming more significant to the future of fishing due to the changing demographics of the United States.  National and state trends are presented for these demographic groups.
