109-15 Bridging the Gap: Supporting and Facilitating Connections to Promote Marine Ecosystem Literacy and Link Academic Resources to Local Communities

Gretchen Glaub , University of Washington - School of Marine Affairs, Seattle, WA
Located on the campus of the University of Washington and working closely with the NOAA Western Regional Facility and numerous education, industry, government and nonprofit organizations, Washington Sea Grant supports innovative programs to bridge the gap between academia and the general public, connect scientists to teachers and support the development of budding marine scientists, policymakers and educators. Among these programs is WOW - Washington on Water, an online database for K-12 educators seeking marine education resources throughout Washington – from interior watersheds to the outer coast.  Our award-winning NOAA Science Camp introduces middle schoolers to earth and ocean sciences and science careers through hands-on activities with scientists that emphasize solutions to real-world problems.
